About The Handy Hippie

Good people. Honest work. Heart-centered service.

The Handy Hippie did not begin with a business plan. It began with a desire to be of service.

Stylized portrait of The Handy Hippie founder in Austin, Texas

Before there was a team, an office, or even a company, our founder was a mechanical engineer who followed a very different path and became a traveling yogi. That journey fostered a connection with the heart, a deep well of empathy, and a desire to serve others.

That desire took a practical form through helping friends and family with whatever projects they had in front of them. In the beginning, there was no intention of starting a home services company. Much of the work was done without charging anything at all. It was simply an opportunity to help.

Then people started talking. A friend would recommend The Handy Hippie to another friend. One project led to the next, and eventually the phone started ringing often enough to make something clear: this had become a business.

For about a year and a half, The Handy Hippie was a one-person operation. It was one handyman in the field, listening carefully, solving problems, and trying to leave every home better than he found it.

Every new project came through a personal recommendation. There was no advertising. Someone had a good experience, trusted the work, and passed the name along. That simple pattern is still the foundation of the company today.

Our vision

“Our vision is to be Austin's most trusted and recommended handyman company by delivering exceptional work with heart-centered service. We show up, tell the truth, treat every problem as if it were our own, and leave every customer feeling cared for. That's our vision.”

How we serve

What heart-centered service means

Heart-centered service begins with listening.

Every customer and every home is different. One homeowner may need the most economical solution possible. Another may care most about craftsmanship and long-term quality. Someone else may have an urgent deadline or simply need a professional they can trust to guide them through the options.

Our responsibility is to understand the whole situation, not just the task written on the work order.

We call that professional empathy. It means taking the time to understand what the customer truly needs and then asking ourselves, “If this were my home and my problem, what would I do?”

It means being present, communicating honestly, and treating people with kindness. It means showing up as the kind of person you can feel comfortable welcoming into your home. It also means recommending the solution that makes the most sense for you, even when it is not the biggest or most expensive option.

Growing through trust

In January 2024, The Handy Hippie became an official LLC and joined BNI, a referral networking organization. As more customers and local professionals began recommending us, it became clear that one handyman could no longer handle all the work.

We began building a team of craftsmen who shared the same values: honesty, resourcefulness, kindness, and pride in a job done right. We added an office manager to make communication and scheduling more dependable. As our customers began trusting us with larger projects, we added dedicated project management to keep remodels and make-readies organized from beginning to end.

Today, The Handy Hippie is a team of eight, including our office manager, project manager, and the skilled craftsmen working in the field.

The company was never built by chasing growth for its own sake. The path appeared one step at a time, and we kept saying yes. Yes to new challenges, yes to solving harder problems, and yes to becoming a better resource for the people who trusted us.

From everyday repairs to larger projects

Our work began with the everyday repairs and projects that keep a home working well. Over time, satisfied customers began asking us to take on more.

“Could you remodel our half bath? Could you take care of the full bathroom? Could you help us with the kitchen?”

Those opportunities allowed us to grow naturally from handyman work into remodeling, make-readies, and larger home projects without losing the personal service that built the company.

An engineering background gives our founder a systematic approach to troubleshooting and the confidence to work through unexpected challenges. Combined with the practical experience of our craftsmen and the organization of our project team, that problem-solving mindset helps us handle projects of many different sizes.

Helping realtors and property managers

A major part of our growth has come from learning what realtors and property managers need from a dependable home services partner.

Listings and rental turns move quickly. Repairs often involve several trades, tight deadlines, and firm budgets. Our team can handle a wide variety of work, coordinate the moving pieces, and complete make-readies efficiently so properties can be listed, rented, shown, and sold without unnecessary delays.

Whether it is a punch list, rental turn, pre-listing refresh, or larger renovation, our goal is the same: make the process easier and deliver work everyone can feel good about.

Our promise

Our craftsmanship guarantee

We stand behind the quality of our work.

If you ever have a concern about something we completed, please let us know. We will listen, take the concern seriously, and work with you to make it right. We believe trust is earned not only through the quality of the work itself, but also through how a company responds when something needs additional attention.

Our goal is simple: to leave you feeling confident in the work and cared for throughout the process.
